Tim Tremblay is ready to take on Kaven Benoît and Jeremy Medaglia in MX2
Kaven Benoît wants a repeat win at the Supermotocross Monster Energy
Quebec’s top two motocross riders, Kaven Benoît and Tim Tremblay, will both be looking for the big win in the MX2 motocross competition at the Supermotocross Monster Energy, presented by Parts Canada/Thor, on Saturday, September 29 at the Olympic Stadium. Benoît, who won in the Pro 250cc MX2 class in front of a partisan crowd at the 2010 Supermotocross ahead of Tyler Medaglia of Kemptville, Ontario, then lost by a hair the following year to brother Jeremy Medaglia. Benoît intends to recapture the crown this time around.
A serious knee injury suffered last winter during a snocross competition kept Benoît out of action for the rest of the season. To test his knee and to get back into shape, the 23-year-old rider, who is from the town of Notre-Dame du Bon-Conseil, decided to take some pressure off by competing in the Quebec AMXQ series. His knee turned out to be just fine. He won the first five races to lead the MX2 class with still two races to go in the season. He also leads the Pro-Am MX3 and Pro MX3 classes, which includes a mix of MX2 and MX1 bikes. At mid-season, the multiple 125cc and 250cc Quebec champion decided to go head-to-head with his KTM bike against the cream of the crop, competing in the CRMC National MX2 Championship where he picked-up two overall wins and three second-place finishes in five outings.
“I am quickly getting back to perfect form, but I’m not quite there yet,” said Benoît. “I have worked hard all summer competing in the Quebec series, and when the Canadian Tour arrived east following its first four western events, I thought it was time for my first serious tests. Jeremy Medaglia and Tim Tremblay should be my toughest opponents in Montréal. I won twice against Jeremy in the Canadian Series and he edged me out once. Against Tim, we split the wins this summer in the Quebec Championships, so it’s difficult to predict the outcome of our meeting at the Big O. The other big test will be the Supermotocross Super Final Showdown where the top 10 MX1 finishers will face the top 10 MX1 riders. As we will be able to trade our MX2 bikes for the more powerful MX1, it should be very interesting.”
“It’s time for me to win in MX2″ – Tim Tremblay
After finishing third in the last two MX2 Supermotocross Monster Energy meets, Tim Tremblay is looking to move up the podium steps on September 29. Tremblay has also collected several Quebec motocross titles in the 125cc and 250cc classes before moving up to MX1 in the Canadian Series the past few seasons. This summer, the 25-year old rider from Lac-Saint-Jean, has returned to the Quebec series, where he is now second in the standings in MX2 and MX3 behind Benoît. He also entered the Canadian Series when it started its Eastern Tour, competing in the MX1 class, where he collected three Top-5 finishes in four starts.
“Unlike past seasons, I’m entering only one class in Montréal, because it’s time for me to win in MX2,” asserts Tremblay. “A podium finish is quite an accomplishment against Canada’s best riders, but there comes a time when it’s not enough. As for the Supermotocross Super Finale Showdown, it comes after the MX2 race and our qualifying period. I will be switching to a Kawasaki 450cc bike and hope to make the top five.”
